Current thoughts

I haven't watched anything in a while. What's going on?

Mostly playing Oblivion. Need to dedicate some more bandwidth to passive entertainment.

The Full Monty

What I really like was how the characters were all pulled together. It starts out with the protagonist and his friend. Then, in a very worthy scene where his friend saves the security guard from suicide, and they talk about the best ways to commit it. (He says this memorial line. "I just saved your life, of course we're lads!") The old guy is someone they pick on at the job hunt place. The black guy and the redhead was recruited. And the weird scene where the redhead and the security guy fall in love.

Throughout the whole story, there were little battles about what they were really doing, and if it would be successful. The friend constantly thinking he's too fat to do it and quitting half-way. The protagonist and his fight with his wife and battles with his son. The old man and his lying to his wife.

The ending had a push when they found out a lot of people were interested in their performance. They all found a little bit more - and then they danced as a conclusion. The ending could have used some more spunk.

Afro Samurai

Season 1

I can't pinpoint what makes the Wandering Ronin flicks so popular. This series has a simple story, a world made up by really cool things, and a red paint scheme. It also has a lot of really colorful characters. It's pretty shallow when it comes to depth, and maybe that's a good thing.

It was entertaining though. It was just as filled with all the blood and guts of 300.

Take root of the fight scene to story ratio.

Futurama : Beast with a billion backs

I really like it. It had the 'create a small problem in the beginning of the story, and then create that same problem on a epic scale'. The problem was that Fry was lonely and met this fantastic woman, except that she is dating 5 other guys. Unable to deal with it, he flies off into space and returns back to Earth with another Galaxy attached to him. This galaxy is lonely too, and meets the Milky Way Galaxy. They start dating.

It mixes a lot of storylines - some went off pretty badly. Bender's was kind of boring - with him both hating the humans yet resenting Fry for not being his friend. Amy losing Kiff was kind of dumb. Leela being skeptical from the beginning until the very end was well made.

Battlestar Galactica

Season 3 - Episodes 1 to 4
I really like that the Pegasus was destroyed as destined, but it wasn't that dramatic. There was a cut where the Cylons were going to assassinate all enemies, while another prisoner was running away. That prisoner was told not to look back. Suddenly, gunfire is heard and it cuts.

The idea that when a child is involved, everything dramatifies. It's a very powerful tool, as Starbuck is completely fucked up when that Cylon told her that it was her child, when it was somebody elses.

Season 3 - Episode 5
I was thinking about the idea that you never know what people do to help, even if they are on the opposing side. Like, he was working for the enemy, but didn't say a word to anybody about it. Then he was put on trial for collaboration with the enemy.

Idiocracy

It was a really good movie. It had a lot of foreshortening with the narrator explaining a situation, rather than having a scene about it. It allowed for a excellent flow. The speed of which this movie goes at is fast - yet it's well paced enough to keep it entertaining.

I am Legend

I thought it was a interesting twist on the whole zombie genre. Instead of the focus of just living with big guns and marines, it was more of a focus on smaller guns and a general/scientist. The movie hits you with a semi-explanation that you fill in yourself in the beginning, then throws you in 3 years later. Once in a while, they'll throw in flashbacks. He is also trying to cure the 'zombies' because his blood is the cure.

I wish they had more flashbacks. The flashbacks were the interesting part. The scenes where the 'zombies' fall into traps are cool too. And the scenes where he interacts with a 'Wilson' character is fun. But the scientist parts were slow and undramatic. And the overall 'I don't want to live anymore' scene wasn't that well polished, nor is the drama in killing his dog.

A really neat action sequence is when the zombies fall through the ceiling and prepare to attack. That is so awesome.

Battlestar Galactica : Razor

It was pretty standard BG. It had flashbacks within the setting, as you watch a newbie go down to become a demon. Nothing significant I can think of.

Wonderfalls

The overall series is kind of slow. It's not punchy with jokes and fast reaction speed. It plays on the calm. Not much really happens. If they fit this show in a 20 minute format, it would probably have been edgier. It does have a few clever nods.

Episode 1 -Wax Lion" The introduction. It introduces all the characters. It had a interesting premise, as well as a bunch of 'wonder' in it, with the scenes of the coins. The whole thing led to her sister proclaiming that she is a lesbian in a awkward dinner scene. It was pretty good.

Episode 2 - Karma Chameleon It played on the idea of 'evil twin' kind of thing, where a girl who likes the protagonist wants to be her. Then it sort of falls into a 'I must give a moral of the story' ending, as well as a discussion on Generation Y.

Episode 3 - "Karma Chameleon" - It told it's story by releasing the tidbit 'Bring her back to him'. Afterwards, it becomes a muddy mess where you're not sure where it goes.

Jackass 2.5

Waste of time.

A lot of dick jokes, a lot of insert in ass jokes. Mike Judd makes a cameo. A funny scene involving a old guy costume walking around fucking with people.

Boondocks

S2 Ep 1 - Or Die Trying

It was the cohesive and best out of the bunch. It had multiple plotlines, as well as a ending that resulted from a incident from before. Huey in the beginning, so his party can sneak in, talks to the usher about forming a union. Later, the movie theatre is closed because of that, allowing them a free ride. There's also a fantastic and random fight scene with nunchucks. Huey brings his nunchucks because he knows it's going to be a bad event(which was a random statement). In the fight with the security, he remembers that he left his nunchucks in the bathroom.

The movie about Soul Plane 2 is funny as well.

S2 Ep 2 - Tom, Sarah and Usher

A excellent side story that doesn't involve the main characters much.

S2 Ep 3 - Thanks for not Snitching

A cold opening and a funny joke about bluetooth earpieces.

S2 Ep4 - Stinkmeaner strikes back

Meh. Besides a random double leg kick fight scene. Also, the fight scene between Huey, Riley, Granddad against the posessed Tom.

Modern Marvels

13x43 - The Cola Wars

Coke started out with coke in it. Refashioned as Coca-cola, to give it brand recognition. Bought up by a another guy who changed the flavor to a more soda taste and less medicine taste. Did aggressive advertising, as well as wiping out competitors. They became famous. They also made a special bottle to distinguish the real thing.

Pepsi was making a acceptable profit, but kept going into bankruptcy. World War 1 came, they bought a lot of sugar out of fear - which lost them lots of money. During the Depression, they doubled their bottle size - which made it a hit. World War 2, they couldn't get sugar supplies.

Coke was granted a American necessity during WW2. Afterwards, Pepsi advertised towards the young and hip, making it popular. Coke refused change. Pepsi did the pepsi challenge. Coke changed their formula, which caused outrage. They changed it back, and made more money.

11x83 - More Doomsday Tech

First case of doomsday tech is Asteroids. Then comets. The difference between asteroids and comets is that asteroids are pieces of planets. While comets just kind of appear, giving them a few months or years to prepare. Deflection is by nudging the comet out of the way.

The second doomsday tech is biochemical. That smallpox has been eliminated, but kept in storage to observe. Russia has these giant cauldrons of it. They also have ICBM with pounds of anthrax to destroy a city. A 'what-if' scenario is terrorists infecting themselves with smallpoxs and going into airports. 10 days later, the symptoms occur. To fight smallpox, you infect a person with cowpox, which helps build the immune system for the fight. If a chemical attack occurred, cities have a facility which can attend to the infected in 12 hours, and decontaminate them.

The third is the food we eat, and the rise in food related illnesses. It was originally believed that one gene equaled one effect. But in 2000, they realized that each gene does different effects. We were originally believed to have 100,000 genes. We only have 30,000.

Pirates of the Caribbean: End of the World

Loopy. Didn't really focus. Didn't really care. I missed a lot from missing the second movie.

It was neat not knowing who was the real bad guy, as they double and triple crossed each other a lot. Also the round of bad guys, that bowed down immediately to the Pirate King without having the story mention who exactly he was. It was just known by how he treated the Pirate Lords. Also, a protagonist having to rely on the powers of 'evil' to defeat the bad guy.

Toy Story 2

It had a lot of intertwining scenes that I like.

The Rex who played Buzz Lightyear Space Command video game in the beginning, only to face a awaken Zurg near the end was beautiful. Also, to create a excellent momentum, having Zurg appear to face a awaken Buzz #2 in that chase scene to the elevator - it added life to a otherwise could-have-been-talky scene.

The cuts between the two parties (Buzz party, and Woody's party) were done very well. One party would say a thing, of which it would cut to the second party doing that.

What's up Tiger Lily?

All the funny lines, I already read about on IMDB.

I enjoyed that they had a MacGuffin in the hands of somebody else, with both the villain and the protagonist trying to get it. The protagonist gets it, then the villain tries to wrangle it out from him.

I didn't really pay attention - the movie wasn't that captivating.

Cloverfield

I liked it. It introduced the characters through a realistic party scene.

The camera man, during one scene, starts telling everybody at the party about how the female secondary had sex with another guy, which I thought was unrealistic. But it was interesting because it added a reason for their departure. This radical and unbelievable stunt was a 'could happen'.

It also had a 'mom call' scene which I enjoy. Mom calls him and he lies, telling her everything she wants to hear.

Dragonball Z movie

I don't even know why I'm writing this.

Saw Dragonball Z movie 13.

It introduced a character I cared little about. It did a good job on setup. It started off with the main bad guy trying to kill himself - and Saiyanman 1 & 2 (Videl) saving him. He was using it as a excuse to have them help with his music box. A montage of them finding the Dragonballs to wish for the box to open, releasing Taipon.

It goes downhill from there.

Pushing Daisies

I watched 4 episodes.

S1 Ep 2 - "Dummy"

S1 Ep 7 - "Smell of Success"

S1 Ep 8 - "Bitter Sweets" - I like this episode because the first 10 minutes, the crime is solved. But the story is focused on the Pie Hole's development, the Candy shop that moved in, and suddenly, the main character is thrusted into his own little crime. It is thwarted by the other main characters. Then the story pulls back the first crime's little meaning, giving it a overall conclusion. Full circle.

S1 Ep 9 - "Corpsicle"
